ENI has been operating in the Republic of Congo since 1968. These activities include exploration, development and production of hydrocarbons. The Congo LNG project is based on the export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Marine XII concession. The project includes two floating natural gas liquefaction (FLNG) plants. SVS Monck is chartered to work in support of the ENI operated FNLG plants providing continuous support for both safety, security and standby tasks.
Combining several task requirements, SVS Monck works to ensure security of the Congo LNG Project resources. With significant oil and gas reserves in the Republic of Congo, the Congo LNG Project plays a major part of the country’s economy and revenue. Ensuring protection from piracy, theft or other illegal acts is the focus of the vessel charter. The Gulf of Guinea, which borders the country, has historically been one of the most piracy-prone regions in the world. Pirates often target cargo ships, oil tankers or other vessels.
The security provided by SVS Monck mitigates this threat, providing an essential layer of safety for both production and shipping operations in its area of operation.
SVS Monck works with project stakeholders to mitigate environmental risks, such as oil spills or other forms of pollution that could threaten the local marine ecosystems. Part of the overall project HSSE framework whilst operating offshore, SVS Monck plays an active role in monitoring, with the ability to respond to, spill and other environmental elements that could adversely impact the project operation and local marine ecosystems.
Overall, the vessel provides a 24/7 presence at sea, only making port calls when local security personnel are rotated or when taking on bunkers and supplies. Typically, port calls are less than 12 hours in duration. The vessel being at sea for extended periods, without incident, is a credit to the operating standards of the Admiral crew and management.
